On Top (19th October, 2006)
After
winning both the men’s and women’s team finals,
China have also been victorious in the men’s all-around
event with Yang Wei picking up the title in style ahead of last
year’s World Champion Hiroyuki Tomita. Speaking after
the victory ceremony, Wei said, ‘I’ve been waiting
for these World Championships a long time.’ Germany’s
Fabian Hambuechen was ecstatic with his bronze medal win. The
19 year old described it as the best day of his life and said,
‘It is just awesome!’.
Priess
Replaces Memmel in All-Around Final (19th October,
2006)
Ashley
Priess will replace injured Chellsie Memmel in tonight’s
all-around final. ‘My right shoulder is very sore and
swollen. It happened yesterday on the uneven bars and I don’t
have full range of motion at this time,’ said Memmel.
Speaking about the individual finals, Memmel explained that
it will depend on how her shoulder is.

It
has just been announced that Chellsie Memmel is out of tonights
all-around final. She sustained a shoulder injury yesterday.
